Feature Wall Painting in Dallas-Fort Worth

State 28 Painting Company paints feature walls, also called accent walls, in homes and businesses across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex: bold color, geometric patterns, ombre, textured finishes and custom murals.

When a room has no center of gravity

Plenty of rooms look finished and still feel flat. Four walls in one color, a sofa against one of them, and nothing for the eye to settle on. A feature wall, also known as an accent wall, fixes that with one move: a single wall painted or decorated differently from the rest, so it becomes the focal point.

It is a good fit where a room needs a place to hang art or anchor furniture, and it works well in open-concept spaces, where one painted wall can define the dining area without a partition. It also lets you be braver with color than you would be across a whole room. A deep shade that would swallow four walls can sit comfortably on one.

The common failure is not the color. It is the wrong wall. A wall interrupted by a window, a door and a thermostat cannot carry a pattern, and a wall that catches harsh afternoon light from a Texas west window will wash out a pale color and turn a dark one glossy. Choosing the wall is half the job.

From taped corners to the finished wall

We start with that choice. A project manager visits the job site, looks at the light, the furniture and the sight lines, and tells you which wall will carry the idea. Any wall can become a feature wall, but not every wall should. The in-house color consultant then helps you narrow palettes and test colors on the wall itself before anything is committed.

Then the work follows the same order as every State 28 job. Furniture is covered, and the wall is cleaned, repaired and primed. Corners and edges are taped for lines that hold, which matters more on a feature wall than almost anywhere, because the eye goes straight to the edges. The design goes on in coats: a bold solid, stripes laid out and taped, a geometric pattern measured on the wall, an ombre blended while the paint is wet, or a mural or custom design drawn up with you.

Textured finishes and whitewashed brick are part of the same family. The finished dining nook in the photo above has a whitewashed brick wall next to grey plank, with bench seating and brass pendants. It shows how a single wall treatment sets the tone for a whole corner of a room. Brick is a masonry job with its own rules, so see our Brick Painting page if that is the wall you have in mind.

Keeping it fresh, and where to take it next

A feature wall is the easiest wall in the house to change. If the color stops working, repainting one wall is a small job compared to redoing a room. Wipe marks with a damp cloth, keep furniture back from heavy textures so they do not rub, and call us when you are ready for the next idea. Our work carries three-year labor and materials warranties, and we are licensed, bonded and insured.

Many feature walls turn into whole-room projects. If you decide the rest of the room should follow, Interior House Painting covers walls, ceilings and trim with crisp cut lines. Wood Trim Painting finishes baseboards and casings so they frame the new wall cleanly. And if the wall carries old wallpaper, Residential Wallpaper Removal comes first, so the paint goes on a smooth, primed surface.

For something more handcrafted, such as marble effects, Venetian plaster or glazing, look at Faux and Decorative Painting. When you are ready, call (214) 771-9145 from Grapevine or anywhere in the Metroplex for a free same-day quote. Financing is available through Hearth for larger projects, and the Gallery shows finished rooms.
