Cabinet Refinishing in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex
State 28 Painting Company refinishes tired kitchen and bathroom cabinets with custom color matching, staining, glazing and distressed finishes, so you can keep the cabinetry you have instead of paying for a full remodel.
What a worn cabinet is telling you
Cabinets take more abuse than any other surface in the house. The doors around the stove carry years of cooking film. The drawer fronts you pull ten times a day wear through at the edges. The finish beside the sink swells where water sits. In a North Texas kitchen that also gets afternoon sun through a south or west window, a stained finish can fade unevenly, and an old painted door can yellow while the box beside it stays white.
Most of the time the cabinet itself is sound. The face frames are straight, the boxes are solid, the doors still close. What has failed is the finish, and the layout you already like is still sitting there. That is the case where refinishing makes sense: you keep the cabinetry, and the surface gets rebuilt.
The collage above shows the shape of a typical job, dark cabinets on one side and white on the other. The same process can also go the other way, from tired paint back to a stained wood look, or to a glazed or distressed finish with more age and character than a flat coat of white.

Refinishing, step by step, with a project manager on site
Refinishing is different from straightforward cabinet painting. If you only want the existing color replaced with a new one, our Kitchen Cabinet Painting page covers that job: prep, prime and paint the boxes, doors and drawer fronts. Cabinet Refinishing is the wider menu. It is for homeowners who want a different kind of finish: a wood stain, a glaze that settles into the corners, a distressed edge, or a color matched to something already in the room.
The work moves in the order the craft demands. Doors and drawer fronts come off and hardware is removed. Surfaces are degreased, because paint and stain will not hold to cooking residue. They are then sanded and cleaned, and anything that stays in place is masked off. Then the finish goes on in coats: stain or primer first, then the color, glaze or distressing, then a protective top coat. Hardware updates belong to the same job, so new pulls and hinges go on while everything is open.
A dedicated project manager is on the job site every day, and State 28's in-house color consultant can help you narrow palettes and test colors before anything goes on your cabinets. Our crew is lead-certified, which matters in older homes where cabinet finishes may sit over decades of earlier paint. If your house predates the lead ban, ask us about Lead-Based Paint Testing before any sanding begins. Typically, refinishing takes three to five days, depending on the size of your kitchen and the complexity of the job. You can reach the Grapevine office at (214) 771-9145 for a free same-day quote.
Living with the finish, and what else to do while the kitchen is open
A refinished cabinet earns its keep through gentle habits. Wipe spills early, use a mild cleaner instead of an abrasive one, and go easy near the dishwasher and the sink where moisture sits. Texas humidity swings and a hot kitchen are tough on any finish, so we will tell you plainly what to expect from the sheen and color you choose. The work carries our three-year labor and materials warranties.
Since the room is already in order, this is a good moment to look at the surfaces around the cabinets. Wood Trim Painting handles baseboards, casings and built-ins. Door Painting can bring interior doors into the same palette. If the walls need a new coat, Interior House Painting follows the same cut-line standard as the cabinet work.
Refinishing costs a fraction of replacing cabinets, which is why many homeowners start here. If a project is bigger than a weekend budget, ask about financing through Hearth, which is covered on our Financing page. Browse the Gallery to see more of our work, or request a quote and a project manager will call you back.

Six things we can do to your cabinets
Pick one, or stack several. A glazed and distressed door with updated hardware reads very differently from a flat satin white, and a project manager walks you through which finish fits your kitchen.
