Brick Painting, Limewashing and Staining in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex
Exterior, interior and fireplace brick painted, stained or limewashed with coatings that let the masonry breathe.
Why brick looks tired, and why painting it is a real decision
Brick rarely fails all at once. In North Texas, south and west walls take the hardest sun, and over the years the face fades, picks up stains and discoloration, and ends up out of step with the trim and roof you chose later. A dated orange-red brick or a fireplace that dominates a room can make the whole house feel older than it is.
People ask about painting it for good reasons: it updates the look, adds curb appeal, covers stains and lets you build a cohesive color scheme with the other exterior elements. Compared with replacing brick, which is not realistic for most houses, it is the more cost-effective route. It is also a commitment, because paint and masonry behave differently from wood and drywall.
The question that decides everything is moisture. Brick is porous and takes in water and releases it again. A thick, film-forming coat that traps moisture can blister and peel, which is why the coating matters as much as the color, and why we assess your particular brick before we recommend anything.

How State 28 paints, stains and limewashes brick
For exterior brick the order is the one we follow on every exterior: pressure wash the house to remove dirt and debris, mask windows, repair and prime surfaces, then coat. Interior brick and fireplaces get the same discipline indoors, with the room protected and taped off first. Surface preparation is where the finish is won, because a coating only bonds to brick that is clean and sound.
Our painters use products from Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Romabio and KEIM, and the last two matter for masonry. Romabio and KEIM are the mineral and masonry coating brands we list among our products, chosen for finishes that let moisture escape and protect the integrity of the brick. Most brick can be painted, but it is best to have an expert assess your specific brick type for the best results.
Beyond a solid color, the service includes brick staining and limewashing for a more textured look, plus color consultation with our in-house color consultant and sealant application as a finishing step. A project manager is on the job site from the first masking tape to the last coat.
Living with painted brick, and what to pair it with
Painted brick keeps looking right when it gets looked after. Wash off dirt and growth as it appears, keep gutters and downspouts clear so water does not run down the same stripe of wall, and tell your project manager about any spot that starts to lift. We do not put a number on how long a coating will last, because it depends on the brick, the exposure and the upkeep.
Brick work usually travels with other jobs. A repainted facade is the natural moment to refresh the trim, doors and siding, and an interior brick wall can become the anchor for a feature wall.
