What sun, water and hands do to a door
A front door on a south or west wall in North Texas takes the harshest light of the day, and the finish shows it: fading, blistering and fine cracks that open along the panels. Water sits along the bottom edge, where bare wood swells and peels first. Inside, doors take fingerprints and chips around the knobs, and years of heavy paint build up on the edges until the door sticks in its frame.
Painting a door without taking it apart rarely works. Paint left over the hinges and strike plates leaves a rough edge, and a door painted while it hangs often glues itself to the jamb. The glossy, scuffed surface also needs sanding and primer, or the new coat chips at the first knock.

State 28 Painting Company handles interior doors, exterior doors, front door refinishing, garage doors, French doors and sliding doors, and a project manager is on the job site for each one. The surface is prepared, primed and painted with materials suited to the door: exterior doors need coatings built for weather, while interior doors can take a harder, smoother enamel.
Most doors need two to three coats for good coverage. Custom color matching is part of the service, and the in-house color consultant can help you narrow palettes and test colors, whether the front door is meant to be the accent or the interior doors should disappear into the trim.
French doors and sliding doors take patience, because the muntins and frames are small and show every drip. They are worth the careful hand, since they are the doors people look through as much as at.
Dry time, curing, and the rooms around the door
Door paint typically dries to the touch in one to two hours, but the finish is soft until it cures. State 28 recommends waiting 24 hours before regular use. Prop the door open for that day so the edges do not bond to the frame.
A fresh door often makes the trim and walls around it look tired, which is when homeowners add them to the same visit. Call (214) 771-9145 from Grapevine or anywhere in the Metroplex and ask for a free same-day quote on the doors and the rooms they open into.

In the collage above, the built-ins and coffered ceiling went white while the arched French door stayed in its dark stain, a choice worth discussing before the tape goes up. The rooms the doors open into are covered by Interior House Painting, and the ceilings above them by Ceiling Painting.
